Bowling: Union Catholic Finishes Third at Union County Championships

LINDEN, NJ -- The Union Catholic bowling team produced one of its best finishes in recent years at Thursday's Union County Championships at Jersey Lanes in Linden.

The Vikings, who didn't advance past the qualifying round last year, qualified for Thursday's final day of competition as the No. 5 seed based on its score in Monday's opening round.

UC, with a team consisting of Owen Quinn, Dan Nocera, John Iannaccone, Kaitlyn Lowey, Goldera Surles, Connor Trower, and Chris Tomalavage. opened Thursday's round with an upset victory over No. 4 Westfield to advance to the semifinals. After losing in the semifinals to top-seeded Union, 3-1, UC defeated No. 6 Dayton in one Baker-Style game, 215-204, to secure the third-place finish. Second-seeded Linden defeated Union, 3-1, to capture the team title.

The third-place finish by UC at the county meet capped a great week for the bowling team.

On Wednesday, Surles finished third and Lowey fourth in the girls individual portion of the Union County Championships.

Girls Basketball: Union Catholic Will Play In Game To Support Childhood Cancer

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Union Catholic varsity girls basketball team is honored to be playing in the Gold-Out game at Bernards High School for the third straight year, a game that will raise money and awareness for Childhood Cancer.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m, is called the “Gold-Out’’ game because gold is the awareness color for Childhood Cancer.
