SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ – The reigning Union County boys soccer champions Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders continued their winning streak on Tuesday, shutting out Millburn 3-0 in the opening round of the 2015 NJSIAA North 2 Group 4 State Tournament.

Brian McManus, Jordan Cimring, and Ari Rosenzweig recorded the three Raider goals, which all came within the first half of play.

“Their goalkeeper in the first half had some Murray-like saves,” coach Tom Breznitsky said. “He probably took about three away from us.”

A scoreless second half on both ends lifted the Raiders to their 15th straight win, and on to the next round where they will face either No. 7 Phillipsburg or No. 10 Dickinson.

“You have to care about every matchup. You know how they are playing up to this particular point, because we’ve seen all those people, you’re hoping maybe some of the tougher ones get upset. Strange things sometimes happen in these tournaments.” Breznitsky added. “Win and advance, that’s all.”

Westfield, Newark East Side, and Elizabeth all advanced to the quarterfinal on Tuesday, and will play again on Friday, Nov. 6 along with Scotch Plains-Fanwood.
