Boys Swimming: Bergen Catholic Defeats Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 102-68

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Bergen Catholic demonstrated why it is ranked No. 8 in the state with a strong performance against Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 102-68, at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Thomas Schrivanich led the Crusaders as part of the winning 200 Medley Relay and 400 Freestyle Relay teams. He also won the 100 Backstroke. Meanwhile, Sean Griffenkranz won the 100 Freetyle and swan in the 400 Freestyle Relay. 

Josh Cohen led Scotch Plains-Fanwood with victories in the 200 and 500 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Alan Shao won the 200 IM and the 100 Butterfly in addition to swimming on the winning 200 Freestyle Relay team. It was also a big day for Raiders senior Nick Heath, who took the 50 Freestyle and swam in the winning 200 Freestyle Relay.

"I thought we swam well against one of the top teams in the state," said Scotch Plains-Fanwood swim coach Jess Hulnik. "Josh, Alan and Nick had some good swims and some kids were at or near their best times. Drew Burnfeindt continues to impress."

  • 100 BACKSTROKE: Thomas Schrivanich, Bergen Catholic 55.24
  • 100 BREASTSTROKE: Ian Liu, Bergen Catholic 1:00.25
  • 400 FREESTYLE RELAY: Lee-Griffenkranz-Chun-Scrivanich, Bergen Catholic 3:30.66
