EWING, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys swim team sought to improve upon its 2015 loss to Moorestown in the Public B state final. This year, the location was the same, but the opponent was different: undefeated Mainland High School. The Mustangs improved upon their perfect season and swam to a 99-71 victory against the Raiders at The College of New Jersey on Sunday.

Justin Liu had individual victories in the 50 and 100 Freestyle and swam the anchor legs in the 200 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay for  Mainland. Brian McGroarty won the 200 IM and 500 Freestyle, and was part of the winning 400 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay teams. Derek Kniesel won the 100 Backstroke and the 100 Butterfly and led off the victorious 200 Medley Relay team for the Mustangs. Joey Rogers swam the 200 Freestyle in a blistering 1:41.81 and just nipped the Raiders' Josh Cohen at the end.

Chris Bondarowicz prevented Mainland for sweeping the meet by winning the 100 Breaststroke for the Raiders.

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
