SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- In a showdown between two swimming powerhouses, Scotch Plains-Fanwood dealt St. Joseph (Metuchen) its first loss of the season, 88-82, at Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA on Wednesday.

The Raiders won the first eight races of the meet to jump out to what proved to be an insurmountable lead. Chris Bondarowicz and Nick Heath won three races. Bondarowicz took the 200 IM, Heath took  the 50 Freestyle, and the two both swam on the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay teams.

Sean Doran broke up the shutout for the Falcons by winning the 100 Backstroke and also was on the winning 400 Freestyle Relay team.

  • 100 Backstroke: Sean Doran, St. Joseph (Met.), 55.05
  • 100 Breaststroke: Michael D'Esposito, St. Joseph (Met.) 1:06.70
  • 400 Freestyle Relay: Catania-Doran-Botting-Thompson, St. Joseph (Met.) 3:33.41

Scotch Plains-Fanwood improved to 9-1 with the win. The Raiders will swim against New Providence on Thursday, Jan. 13, and then will compete in the County meet this weekend. The Falcons, now 7-1, travel to Morristown on Thursday.
