Bubble Tea: A Burst of Flavor at Froyo World in Scotch Plains

Taro Bubble Tea. The black "pearls" of tapioca are the "bubbles" visible at the bottom of the beverage, which is drunk with a wide straw.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Bubble Tea has arrived.

Bubble Tea. a cold, frothy drink popular in Asia made with iced tea, sweetened milk and other flavorings, is now available locally at Froyo World (405 Park Ave.) The beverage comes with an exceptionally wide straw that helps suck up the sweet black “pearls” made from tapioca. Bubble Tea comes in the following flavors: Avocado, Strawberry, Peach, Pineapple, Green Tea, Milk Tea, and Taro.

"Bubble Tea is a cool, refreshing drink that is very popular in California and New York City," said Albert Caamic, owner of Froyo World. "We are proud to introduce it here in Scotch Plains."

"Bubble tea is also known as pearl milk tea, boba milk tea, boba tea, tapioca tea, boba nai cha, milk tea, bubble drink, tapioca pearl drink, momi, 'the drink with the fat straw'," Caamic added. "There are many different recipes that each tea shop makes to stand out from the rest. These include different ingredients, like milk, cream, ice cream, shaved ice, fresh fruit, syrup, flavored powders, soy milk, black tea, and/or jasmine flavored tea."

The frozen yogurt shop has also added a variety of fruity flavors in time for summer, including Banana Islander, Mango Tango Tart, Sweet Coconut, and Watermelon, to go along with popular choices including Birthday Cake Batter, Mint Chocolate and Classic Vanilla.

Froyo World's summer hours are: Sunday - Thursday: 12:00 Noon until 10:00 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 11:00 p.m.
