An early morning house fire brought the Fanwood Fire Department to a home at 215 Coriel Avenue on Tuesday, August 7th. The fire, which began in the basement, apparently started sometime overnight and was put out by 7:00 AM. No one was home at the time. The Fanwood Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Scotch Plains and Westfield Fire Departments. The Fanwood Rescue Squad was assisted by Union County EMS. Two cats were found inside the smoke-filled home by Fanwood firefighters, who removed them to the waiting Rescue Squad, which administered oxygen. Within an hour, the cats seemed to be doing better, as neighbors prepared to take them to a local vet for a check up. No humans were injured in the fire and the cause is under investigation.
