SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Volunteers from the Men’s Club of Congregation Beth Israel built the synagogue’s Sukkah (booth) on Sunday, Sept. 28, in preparation for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
In keeping with tradition, the volunteers erected the Sukkah on the synagogue’s outdoor patio to replicate the temporary huts that their ancestors dwelled in while wandering in the desert. Throughout the week-long celebration of Sukkot, which begins on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at sundown, congregants and Religious School students will be able to eat in Congregation Beth Israel’s Sukkah.
