CRANFORD - Chinua “Chewy” Massena, a sophomore guard from Bloomfield and a vital member of Union County College’s Men’s Basketball team, surpassed his 1,000 career point total during the Feb. 2 game against Passaic County College. In addition to this significant achievement, he is currently leading the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III in scoring, averaging 27.1 points per game and is ranked second in the nation in 3-point shooting with a percentage of 57.8.
During two games in the Rhode Island tournament on Jan. 14 and 15, he averaged 38 points per game. He scored a career high of 43 points in the game against Mercer College, which included nine 3-pointers. He continues to work hard daily on the court and in the classroom. His goal is to earn a scholarship at the end of the semester, when he will graduate with his degree in liberal studies.
