Christian Yoga Classes at Willow Grove Church Oct. 17 & 24

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Christianity will be intertwined with yoga classes to give a wonderful spiritual, physical and mindful experience. Two certified yoga teachers will give their Christian perspectives as they guide attendees through yoga positions, stretches and meditation on consecutive Saturdays.

Each one hour class starting promptly at 11:00 a.m. is free and will be held in Alexander Hall upstairs at Willow Grove Church. Space is limited to the first 20 people, 18 years or older, who make advance reservations by calling August Ruggiero at 908-889-5948. Everyone will need to bring a yoga sticky mat and a beach towel.

On Oct. 17, Cris Iannitto-Cancela plans to incorporate Jesus in guiding the class through an opening meditation. As participants stretch in yoga poses, they will be opened to the energy of the Holy Spirit. Yoga will serve as a spiritual exercise to unite with God.

On Oct. 24, Janna Sage Peterson will use various biblical passages and The Lord’s Prayer as the focus as she leads this yoga class. The physical practice of yoga will prepare the body for prayer and meditation. The body is the sacred temple where the Spirit resides.

Cris Iannitto-Cancela has been teaching Classical Hatha Yoga since 1998, with Yoga certifications from YogaFit and NETA, National Exercise Trainers Association. Cris teaches Yoga at a numerous N.J. locations, including the Fanwood/ Scotch Plains YMCA, fitness centers, hospitals and corporations.

Janna Sage Peterson has taught over 5,000 Yoga classes and is a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher at the advanced level. She is also certified in teaching Christian Yoga. Janna teaches Yoga at various facilities, including the Fanwood/ Scotch Plains YMCA, and has a community Yoga class at her church.

Willow Grove Presbyterian Church is a vibrant Christian community committed to spiritual growth for all ages, engaging worship, welcoming hospitality and service to neighbors near and far.
