FANWOOD, NJ -- The College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains continues its monthly program series at The Chelsea (295 South Ave, Fanwood) with Dr. Jennifer Olmstead, Prof. of Economics and Director of Middle East Studies at Drew University. Dr. Olmstead will present findings from her research and firsthand knowledge on the conditions facing women in the Arab world, and the way violent conflict affects gender norms, often in contradictory ways.
Dr. Olmstead grew up in Lebanon and spent a number of years in the Palestinian Territories and has particular interest in globalization, Middle East Economics and ways conflict shapes economic outcomes. She received her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, her Masters in Agricultural Economics and a PhD in Economics from the University of California Davis. Her PhD research involved carrying out field work in the West Bank following the 1993 Gulf war. Dr. Olmstead has recently served as the Gender Advisor at the UN Population Fund (UNFPA).
The program is free and open to the public. The College Club’s mission is to support education of our youth, local community and ourselves and we encourage you to bring your children, scouts, and community groups to our meeting at The Chelsea located at 295 South Ave, Fanwood, NJ. Refreshments will begin at 7:30 p.m. with the program to start at 7:45 p.m.
