SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The community is invited to attend a benefit concert with live entertainment for the country of Nepal, which suffered a devastating earthquake this past April 25th. Thousands of lives were lost and thousands were left homeless.
The Rotary Club of Fanwood Scotch Plains, the Scotch Plains Fanwood High School and Rotary District 7510 in Central New Jersey will host the concert at SPFHS on Friday, September 25th at 6 PM. Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased in advance at www.homesofhopenepal.com. During the concert, a silent auction will be held to raise the majority of the funds.
The concert will include the renowned SPF high school band performers, Nepalese musicians and dancers, and the AfterParty Band, a popular local cover band. In addition, there will be displays of Nepalese culture, along with a variety of food (including Nepalese) for purchase.
Two reputable organizations have been chosen to be recipients of the funds. The first is Homes of Hope Nepal, an organization sponsored by Rotary that builds homes and will be sending a team to Nepal next spring. The other organization is OLE Nepal, the Nepalese arm of a worldwide organization which uses technology to promote childhood literacy. Since much of the infrastructure of the country has been damaged, this is an excellent opportunity to not only rebuild education in Nepal, but to build it to a higher standard. The website is www.olenepal.org.
