Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains will hold a community Seder on the second night of Passover, Tuesday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. The Seder is open to both members and non-members of the synagogue. Rabbi George Nudell of Congregation Beth Israel will lead the family-friendly seder.

Congregation Beth Israel is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue, serving Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Westfield and surrounding towns. The community Seder will be strictly kosher for Passover. 

Congregation Beth Israel strives to create an accessible environment for all. The synagogue has been recognized as an ABLE Awarded Congregation by the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest for its commitment to inclusion and accommodation for all its members and guests.

Adults cost $40 per person and children (2 – 12 years old) cost $20 each. Children under two years of age can attend for free.

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ --  The township nurse will be available at the Scotch Plains Public Library for blood pressure checks on Tuesday, May 8, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. No registration is required.

The Scotch Plains Library is located at 1927 Bartle Ave., one block from Park Ave. in the center of town.
