Congregation Beth Israel to Hold Open House For Prospective Members

Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains will hold an open house for prospective members on Sunday, May 18, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  The open house will take place during the synagogue’s party celebrating the Jewish holiday of Lag B’Omer and the end of the year for its Religious School. 

The party will feature a BBQ and games for children of all ages.  Sponsored by the synagogue’s Men’s Club, the event is free to the public.

Prospective congregants will have the opportunity to tour the synagogue and its Religious School and to meet Congregation Beth Israel’s leadership.

“We are excited to celebrate the end of a successful year and the holiday of Lag B’Omer at a party open to the community,” said Elly Bauman, Education Director of Congregation Beth Israel. “We are eager for prospective members to meet the children, parents and teachers that make up our close synagogue family.”

Congregation Beth Israel’s Religious School was one of the first three congregations in North America to be designated as a Framework for Excellence School by the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.  The Religious School offers classes from pre-school through 11th grade, as well as special needs instruction.  Synagogue membership is not required for programs through second grade.  Religious School for grades 3-7 meets two days per week.

Congregation Beth Israel is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue, serving the religious, cultural, educational and social needs of congregants from Scotch Plains, Fanwood, Westfield and surrounding towns. It has an active Sisterhood, Men’s Club and youth group, plus a wide array of programs, ranging from adult education courses to social action opportunities.
