The governor also announced that we have "lost an additional 27 New Jerseyans to COVID-19, bringing our total of loss of life to 11,721."

"Look at that number: 11,721," Murphy said. "In four years of fighting on two fronts in Europe and in the South Pacific, New Jersey lost 12,865 blessed souls in World War II."
Murphy reported these grim numbers, even has he announced that restrictions on restaurants with outdoor seating, non-essential retail, barbers and hair salons would soon be lifted.

"As we open, we know there is a greater chance for transmission of the virus. This is why one of our critical data points was testing capacity, and we now have robust testing in place to help us test more people and quickly identify outbreaks," Murphy said. "As we sit here, there is no cure. There is no vaccine. There is no proven therapeutic. The only cure, frankly, is responsibility. Responsibility on the one hand of those of us in government to get our only shot at restart right, and then the responsibility on behalf of you all, the 9 million of us who call this great state our home."
"Continue with social distancing, to practice safe hygiene, to wear something covering your face when you're in public," the governor advised. "Because this virus is among us, we will act as quickly as we can, but as safely as we must. Our economic restart will fail if we fail to instill the confidence we need among you all, our residents and visitors, that their safety and that of their families is our number one priority."
