WESTFIELD, NJ -- After more than a year battling acute myeloid leukemia, Darren Lederman, father of Emma and Noah, and husband of Stacey Katcher Lederman, has died.

“My amazing, selfless and heroic husband, Darren Lederman, has lost his tireless fight to leukemia,” Stacey Lederman wrote Tuesday in the Lederman Strong Facebook group. “Please, please continue to keep my amazing family, especially our two children, in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for all of your love and support.”

Members of the community have rallied behind the Lederman family, organizing and participating in bone marrow drives and fundraisers, wearing “Lederman Strong” shirts, bringing the family meals and donating money to help them pay their bills via More than 1,000 people joined their Facebook group.

Lederman received a bone marrow transplant in May thanks to a total stranger, but the transplant resulted in graft versus host disease, and the cancer returned. More drives were being held to find a second donor, but ultimately the family learned that Darren would not survive.

The family’s public struggle has brought leukemia and the need for bone marrow donors to light, and hundreds attended a recent bone marrow drive at the JCC of Central NJ.

Lederman's funeral is set for Thursday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Goldstein’s Funeral Home, 2015 Woodbridge Ave. in Edison. Shiva services will take place in the Lederman home in Westfield. For details, visit the Lederman Strong Facebook group

A memorial fund has been established to provide assistance with Darren's funeral expenses and ensure that Emma and Noah can continue to enjoy their extracurricular activities like dance and sports. To contribute, click here.

Additionally, an ducation account has been set up for the children. Visit and use code C6V-413 to donate for Emma and code N8P-R83 to donate for Noah.
