FANWOOD, NJ -- For the second year in a row, The Chelsea at Fanwood offered drive-through ashes for Ash Wednesday.

From 12 Noon until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, anyone could drive through or walk into the breezeway, and Father Duncan Johnston of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield would administer ashes and a blessing. Drivers didn’t even have to get out of their cars.

Fr. Duncan provided ashes to 60 people, including 10 walk-ups, two babies, and a “cup of ashes to go” for an infirm loved one, according to Pam Gabel, director of community relations for The Chelsea at Fanwood.
