SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ – Insurance is unique in that it exists as a service you pay for, but hope to never really use. Nelson Espeland of Allstate is aware of the burden that people face when paying too much for insurance, and his team in Scotch Plains aims to provide the best value at the most competitive rates in the area.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Espeland continued his family’s legacy with Allstate by making his services available for residents of Union County. He is a Northeast Agencies Elite Broker, as well as a member of the Allstate New Jersey President’s Club.

Espeland’s commitment to serving the community is evident in more ways than one. His company was named Business of the Year by the Scotch Plains Business and Professional Association in 2009 and it regularly sponsors local events, such as the upcoming 2015 National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4. He is also a member of the Fanwood Business and Professional Association and serves on the Summit YMCA’s board of advisors.

He believes one of the driving factors of his company’s success is an unusual – and effective -- communication policy.

“No voicemail. I don’t allow it,” Espeland said, referring to the phones in his office. “When customers have a question or a concern, they don’t want to talk to a machine, so we make sure to answer each call during office hours.”

The team made significant changes to their technology and staff in 2014, and continue to stay as up-to-date as possible.

“I have seven licensed account associates whose sole purpose is to be there for our customers,” Espeland said, as new computer towers were installed in his office.

While people often think of Allstate for auto, home and life insurance, Espeland also offers flood, renters, and business insurance, in addition to retirement and college savings plans.

With so many insurance companies offering rough estimates online, Espeland continues to use personalized communication to set himself apart by preparing quotes in person and over the phone with great detail.

“It will take you five minutes to provide the information and we’ll do the rest,” Espeland said. “We protect our customers from life’s uncertainties by making sure that they have the right amount of coverage to meet their needs. Our goal is to help customers with important insurance and financial decisions while providing dedicated service at highly competitive rates.”

Nelson Espeland's Allstate New Jersey agency is located at 2284 South Ave. in Scotch Plains. He can be reached at (908) 233-6300 or email nelson@allstate.com

Capitalist or Communist?

Karl Marx may have been the pioneer, but many other Jews were also involved in the struggle for communism, particularly in the early days of the Russian revolution. Having suffered unbearably under successive oppressive regimes, many of those political activists genuinely thought communism would be better ...
