WESTFIELD, NJ — Through a friend, the family of Lind Fazio, the 6-year-old girl hospitalized after nearly drowning at Westfield Memorial Pool Saturday, thanked the community for the prayer service held Wednesday at St. Helen’s Church and said that Linda showed a “pronounced increase in signs of improvement” since then.

Jen Goldstein shared this statement from parents Claudio and Yanella Fazio:

“We are completely overwhelmed by the continued support the Westfield community is showing,” they wrote. “When we moved here two years ago we had no idea what a blessing this was. We are sure the power of prayer and love is lifting our daughter out of this most difficult moment. Since the prayer service, we have seen a pronounced increase in signs of improvement. The fact that so many people of various faiths came together to share in the common goal of demonstrating their love and caring for our daughter has really touched our hearts.”

Almost 300 people of all ages and religious backgrounds attended Wednesday’s service. A GoFundMe site created by Goldstein to help the family in their time of need has raised more than $37,000 since Monday. To contribute, click here.

“It’s been incredible to see how the community has supported the Fazio family, first through the GoFundMe site and now with the prayer vigil,” Goldstein said. “The Fazio family can feel the support they are receiving and it’s helping them – and Linda - in so many ways. Linda’s grandmother, uncle and other family members attended the vigil and were so moved by the love and concern they felt in the room. We truly live in a wonderful community.”

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.

Politics IS Government in Union County

April 21, 2018

Dear Editor:

After Bruce Patterson of Garwood was stopped from speaking at the Union County Freeholder meeting of March 22 regarding the politics behind refusing to give the party line to a sitting Freeholder, I thought this brazen suppression of free speech could not go unanswered.

At the April 19 meeting I answered with these comments.

After ten years of following government in Union ...
