FANWOOD, NJ—The Mayor and Fanwood Council held their monthly meeting on January 19, 2021, via Zoom.

The meeting opened with a proclamation honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Martin Luther King Day recognizing the efforts he displayed in fighting for racial equality in the United States. The next order of business was a proclamation declaring January 20, 2021, "Jack Ross Day" in recognition of the volunteer and law enforcement of long time Fanwood police officer Jack Ross who has served the Borough of Fanwood for over 40 years stemming back to 1980.

From there the mayor and council had a discussion about a proposed amendment to the garbage pickup times in town. The council determined that the issue is not with the time for trash pickup, but with the enforcement of the rules already in place. The council concluded that when violated, the onus is on the citizens to report the violation of the ordinance to the police who will handle the report accordingly.

The council also reviewed a handful of resolutions. These included a transfer of funds from the 2020 budget year for sewer maintenance, an approval of a $28,000 budget to modernize the borough facilities for COVID-19, and proposed purchase of body cams and tech support to the Fanwood Police Department.

Additionally, the council approved other resolutions granting $9,000 for renovations to both sides of borough hall, the payment of vendor claims in the amount of $2.3 million, and the promotion of Fanwood Police Officers Kevin Stomber and Daniel Kranz to sergeant.
