FANWOOD, NJ -- The Westfield Department of Health, which covers Fanwood, is suggesting its municipalities consider passing ordinances that other towns have passed that would ban the sale of e-smoking devices in stores except smoke shops.
The Fanwood Board of Health will look at ordinances of other municipalities at its next meeting in October. Vaping has been cited as the cause of death for several deaths of young people nationwide since the school year began. The State of New York is considering a ban, according to The New York Times.
A New Jersey Assembly committee on Monday advanced a proposed ban on the products. It also approved a bill that would prohibit the use of coupons and promotional offers for tobacco and vapor products, according to News 12 NJ.
Assemblyman Herb Conway Jr., a physician, says his goal is to prevent the products from targeting young people.
Councilwoman Trisha Walsh, the Council’s liaison to the Board of Health, will continue to monitor the issue.
