FANWOOD, NJ – Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr was on hand Tuesday for the officially opening of the ground floor retail portion of the Elite Property’s Fanwood Crossing Development on the corner of South and Martine.

“It does not seem possible that is was only a little over a year ago that we were attending a ground breaking ceremony for this project,” said Mayor Mahr.  “It has been wonderful working with a developer with a conscious and one with a heart for Fanwood.  They have provided jobs, tenants and now, new businesses, all of which go to the vitality of what we are doing here in Fanwood.”

David Checchio, of Elite Properties, thanked the Mayor and commented that he “felt like we were celebrating in the third inning” as Elite Properties still has much to do on this development.  “All of us at Elite Properties have a spirit of gratefulness for all the assistance that Fanwood has given us with this project.  We are very thankful.”

Marci and Mark Semel are local residents who hope to open a bakery and café in the new Development.  They have provided Elite Properties with a letter of intent. “We are really excited by this opportunity and we are working hard to make it a reality,” said Marci Semel.

While the focus of the event was on the retail space. agent Susan Powers confirmed that the residential space is two thirds filled, and there was great interest in the few remaining apartments.

Fanwood Crossing resident Maryanne Donaghy attended the opening.  “I was living in Mountainside when I began noticing this development and I made it my goal to live here,” she explained.  “This is the most magnificent place to live, I feel so safe and the architect did a fantastic job with the design.”

Once the retail space is leased, Elite Properties will begin to concentrate on the next piece of the development, on the land adjacent to South Avenue.  “We hope to break ground there in about a years,” said Elite partner Tom Powers.

What Is Your Bottom Line?

This week's Parshah (Torah reading) is the Parshah of Pinchas the Zealot: the courageous young priest who stood up against idolatry and immorality and, in the end, saved Israel from a devastating plague.
