FANWOOD, NJ -- The Fanwood Democratic Committee has announced its 2017 will include incumbent Councilman Russ Huegel, who is running for his fourth term, and Anthony Carter, a Recreation Commissioner and youth sports coach, who will run for the seat currently held by Kevin Boris who is not seeking re-election. The committee recently hosted a fundraiser at Sheelen's Crossing on South Avenue in Fanwood.

Huegel, an attorney in private practice and a former Council President, has experience in all aspects in running the governing body. His wife, Jen, is on the Fanwood Library Board of Directors. The couple has two daughters.

"Russ's commitment to Fanwood's growth as a family-friendly town make him a must-have for our Council," said Mayor Colleen Mahr, who was elected to an unprecedented fourth term in 2015.

While Anthony Carter is a newcomer to the election process, he is a familiar face in Fanwood. Known as "Coach Carter" to many of the Borough's young athletes and their parents, he has been a Recreation Commissioner since 2012. Carter is a Municipal Compliance Supervisor for the Township of Irvington, an electrician by trade, and a dad to four children.
