FANWOOD, NJ – Mayor Colleen Mahr led the annual borough reorganization meeting at noon on Wednesday, with the swearing in of two council members top on the agenda.

Councilwoman Kathy Mitchell was sworn in, making her the longest serving member of Council with 16 years of service, and Tom Kranz was sworn in for his first term as a council member.

Pat Plante, chairwoman of the Fanwood Democratic Committee, thanked both Mitchell and Kranz for their service to the borough.  Assemblywoman Linda Stender and Freeholder Al Mirabella also came to the microphone to add their congratulations and thanks to the newly sworn in council members.

“Politics is the art of getting things done,” Stender said.  “When you have the public trust like Kathy and Tom do, you can get things done and I wish you all the best in the New Year.”

“My family and I picked Fanwood, we love the people, we love the library and we couldn’t be more delighted to be living here,” Mirabella said.  “I would like to applaud Kathy Mitchell for her many years of public service, and I would like to congratulate Councilman Kranz for extending his public service from the Rescue Squad to also include the council.”

Each council member spoke briefly about their thoughts and ideas for the New Year, with many kind words for retiring Councilman Tony Parenti, and somber commentary on how, going forward, Fanwood could maintain top level services while bringing costs down.

Mahr also administered the oath of office to Judge Susan MacMullan, Public Defender Erik Frins, Jennifer Coppock-Huegal to the Library, Amy Boroff to the Recreation Commission and the volunteers of the Fanwood Fire Department and Fanwood Rescue Squad.

The council then worked its way through a list of resolutions that outlined the various professional appointments for the year and the meeting was adjourned shortly after 1 p.m. with an invitation to all to attend the luncheon following at the Chelsea.
