I endorse Colleen Mahr as Mayor of Fanwood for a fifth term. Time and time again, Fanwood residents and community leaders convey that the Borough Council facilitates growth, support, and open-mindedness. At the front of that is the extraordinary Mayor Mahr.
Colleen could not love Fanwood more, and this drives her leadership. She is genuinely excited about new town developments and stories from residents - from the opening of a grocery store to awarding the rescue squad. Most importantly, she effectively communicates those stories to us so we can fully engage in them with her.
In addition to her exceptional service to Fanwood, she is a brave voice for so much - but notably the democratic process, women's rights, better transportation on the Raritan Valley Line - and she leads our state League of Municipalities. Her service also extends nationally, as Colleen and I co-founded the Union County chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America in October 2015. It has been going strong ever since. Last week, Colleen and Council commemorated the National Gun Violence Awareness campaign with a proclamation and by wearing orange. At that same meeting, the Mayor issued my colleague and I a mayoral proclamation for our new advocacy group for patients, families and friends affected by metastatic breast cancer called METAvivors of NJ.
Finally, Colleen and I have maintained a very valuable, close friendship as women who publicize the issues that matter the most to our communities. While I am always in awe of her and all that she contributes, I am also grounded by her. She is absolutely one of the smartest, most generous, passionate, talented people I have ever had the privilege to know. We are so fortunate to benefit from her service, and Fanwood is lucky to call her Mayor.
