FANWOOD, NJ - The members of Fanwood’s Policemen’s Benevolent Association (PBA) Local 123 were busy this 2015 holiday season raising money for noteworthy causes just like in past years. There was an outstanding show of support for many causes that the Fanwood PBA holds near and dear.

In November, many members of the PBA participated in, and raised money for, “No Shave November” which helps fund cancer research. Officers were allowed to grow mustaches and goatees to raise awareness for the cause.

Per its website, No Shave November “has successfully raised over $2 million to combat this disease. Every dollar raised brings us one step closer in our efforts to fund cancer research and education, help prevent the disease, and aid those fighting the battle. Each whisker grown allows us to embrace our hair, which many cancer patients lose during treatment.”

Besides cancer research fundraising, the Fanwood PBA also made donations to various organizations and programs in the Fanwood-area including First Children and the Fanwood Rescue Squad to aid in the advancement of their causes.

Furthermore, the Fanwood Police Department teamed up with the Parents as Teachers program in Union County for the annual Giving Tree, in which residents donated gifts for needy children in the local area. The goals for Parents as Teachers program are to “improve pregnancy outcomes, increase parent involvement in children’s care and education, improve child health and development, prevent child abuse and neglect, and increase school readiness.”

Lastly, Fanwood PBA Local 123 donated Christmas meals to all of the group homes in town. The residents and staff were very grateful for receiving a dinner, and members of the PBA took great joy in speaking with everyone. The PBA supports organizations like the ARC of Union County as well as the other organized group homes in town.

The members of the Fanwood PBA 123 would like to thank all of the residents and businesses in town for their continued support throughout the years. A new website will be going live in early 2016 and will contain information on the PBA, upcoming events, and donations through PayPal.
