FANWOOD, NJ -- Mayor Colleen Mahr presented a Veterans Day proclamation on Monday evening to Joe McCort, finance officer at American Legion Post 209 and quartermaster of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10122, both of which provide support for veterans in the community.

McCort was the emcee at Veterans Day ceremonies in Scotch Plains and Fanwood on November 11 and at Memorial Day ceremonies back in May. Fanwood has an estimated 200-300 veterans residing in the Borough. A number of them are WWII veterans.

"There's never a generation gap among veterans," said McCourt, a Vietnam vet who served as Grand Marshal of Fanwood-Scotch Plains Memorial Day Parade in 2016. "They share a common commitment."
