Fanwood Recreation Department Hosts Annual Party in the Park

FANWOOD, NJ - The Fanwood Recreation Department held its annual Party in the Park at LaGrande Park on Wednesday, June 29, to kick off Summer 2016.

Drawing in hundreds of families from across the Scotch Plains-Fanwood community, the party began at 7:00 pm and lasted until 8:30. The night was far from over, however, as the Fanwood Summer Movie Series commenced with the wildly popular movie, Minions, on a 16’-wide screen in the outfield of the two baseball fields.

Families eagerly reserved their seats for the movie with lawn chairs and blankets well in advance; children scattered throughout the park to take part in their favorite activities. Bouncy houses and inflatable slides were set up and were preceded by long lines of kids anxious to climb, jump and slide.

A laser tag course, featuring digital scoring, kept kids engaged and allowed them to compete on teams.  An obstacle course was also in place at the event. Through it all was music, an assortment of food and barbecue, prizes, and of course, meeting and taking photos with a life-sized Minion in costume.

The Party in the Park was filled with “Tag” on the playground, fierce battle in Laser Tag, relaxation on the lawn in front of the screen, and children accomplishing an obstacle course or climbing the bouncy house. Yet more importantly, the night at LaGrande was a prime and palpable example of a community coming together in which the attendees filled the clear air with laughter and joy. SPF families gathered to celebrate the ringing of summer as the unmistakable aroma of barbecue mixed with the comfortable temperature of the lively evening.

The event was originally scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, but was postponed due to rain.
