FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The last of the unbeatens took it on the chin, as a trifecta of nailbiters highlighted Week Five play in the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s 30+ Basketball League.

Game #1
Winning team: Falcons (61)
Losing team: No Conscience (58)

A barn-burner opened the day’s action, as the Falcons, led by Jason Shann’s 24 pts and 7 rebounds, handed No Conscience its third straight loss.  Rookie Clay Torres chipped in 14 & 7, and center Troy Sims double-doubled (10 & 10) for the victors. N.C. received 57 of its 58 points from the quartet of Gregg Carder (18), Stephen Murray (16), Tim Gray (14), and Capt. Chris Mattina (9). Both teams are now 2-3 for the season.

Game #2
Winning team: Size Matters (43)
Losing team: Get Buckets (40)

Size Matters, playing without its leading point-getter & rebounder, Capt. James Patrick, surprised previously undefeated Get Buckets, to forge a tie atop the standings. Jason Pompeo paced a balanced Size attack with 11 pts, while Scott Lowder and Chris Burke each tallied 10. Get Buckets’ prolific scorer Jamal Berry was held in check, his 16 pts five below his norm. Capt. Justin Fiory hit four from downtown to account for his 12 pts.

Game #3
Winning team: Hickory Hoosiers (47)
Losing team: Slamma Jamma (33)

Joe DeGennaro and David Ferreiro both fired in 13 pts, as the Hoosiers coasted, in the only game of the day not decided in the final minute. Slam Jam found the iron unkind, connecting on just 32% of their tries, including 0-7 from beyond the arc. First-year player Greg Josephsen (11) and veteran Dave Berger (10) reached double figures, while the league’s top rebounder, Gavin Ford, hauled down 12 caroms.

Game #4
Winning team: Flash-N-Bang (64)
Losing team:  Drive N Dish (60)

Two 1-3 teams in search of win #2, battled to avoid the basement. League-leading scorer Warren Lowe poured in 27 pts, and running mate Omar Glover contributed 16 pts & 10 boards, as Flash-N-Bang held off a pesky DND bunch. Guard Brian Ciemneicki drove and dished for 24 pts and 5 dimes, while the front court tandem of Chris Beaudry (11 & 9), and Steve Lee (11 & 7) were workman-like for the tough luck losers.

Get Buckets  4-1
Size Matters  4-1
Slamma Jamma  3-2
Falcons  2-3
Flash-N-Bang  2-3
Hickory Hoosiers  2-3
No Conscience  2-3
Drive N Dish  1-4
