Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA 30+ Men’s Basketball League Week # 4 Results

FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Temperatures may have been frigid outside, but the competition inside was heated, as the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s 30+ Basketball League ushered in the new year.

Game #1
Winning team: Throwbacks       (60)
Losing team:  Triples ‘n Dimes  (48)
 
The Throwbacks picked up where they left off in 2017, behind 17 points from rookie guard Orlando Jean-Charles, and Capt. Jamal Berry’s 15 pts and 9 rebounds. Veteran throwbacks Jason Shann (10) and Jason Holley (8), helped TB stay undefeated. TND’s Rich Cobbinah was the game’s high-scorer with 22 pts., and was supported by teammates Stephen Murray (11) and Tim Gray (9).

Winning team:  Team 8              (45)
Losing team:   Basket Brawlers (31)

Team 8 stormed out to an 18-point halftime advantage, and cruised to its first victory of the season.  Chris Burke (12 pts, 7 rebounds) led a balanced T8 attack, first-year sharpshooter Brendan Ryan tallied 10, and Omar Glover contributed 8 pts & 10 boards. The Brawlers’ Warren Lowe paced all scorers with 13, as Capt. Pete Falco’s squad fell to 1-3.

Winning team:  Game Over      (53)
Losing team:   Droppin’ Dimes (37)

Sizzling shooting propelled G.O. to a 39-15 margin at the intermission, and the game was just about over. Gavin Ford double-doubled (17 & 10), Greg Shea (13 pts) knocked down three from beyond the arc, Clay Torres tossed in 10, and Geoff Gonzalez had 9 for the victors. The dynamic backcourt duo of Eljay Aguillo (20 pts, 4-5 from downtown) and Brian Ciemneicki (7 pts, 8 assists) spearheaded a brief stanza-two rally for the Dimes, still in search of that elusive first triumph.

Winning team: Talkin’ ‘Bout Practice (57)
Losing team:  Run It Back!                (32)

The two-a-day practices over the holiday break paid dividends, as TBP coasted to win #3.  Joe DeGennaro posted a 16-pt, 11-rebound gem, and front court mates Joe Encarnacion and Mike Ruccio registered 10 pts apiece for the Practice players. Gregg Carder finished with 12 pts. and 6 caroms, and Graham Haskell and Capt. Tom St. John each grabbed 7 misses for Run It Back!, which dropped its second straight.
