Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA 30+ Men’s Basketball League Week # 5

FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Week Five action in the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s 30+ Basketball League saw one team remain perfect, and another enter the win column for the first time.

Game #1
Winning team: Team 8       (59)
Losing team:  Game Over  (41)

Four double-digit scorers paced Team 8 to its 2nd straight victory.  Omar Glover led the way with 16 pts (8 boards), Chris Burke tallied 15, Brendan Ryan dropped 14 (4 treys, 7 rebs), and Frank Vallejo added 11 (3 triples). Three players accounted for G.O.’s total output for the day – Capt. Gavin Ford posted a 20-pt, 11-rebound double-double, Greg Shea notched 12 pts, and Geoff Gonzales finished with 9.

Winning team:  Droppin’ Dimes         (58)
Losing team:   Talkin’ Bout Practice  (45)

The Dimes got off the skids behind their dandy lefty guard combo of Eljay Aguillo (23 pts, five 3’s), and Capt. Brian Ciemneicki (16 pts, 6 rebs). The imposing front court of Craig Cichocki, Kevin Gannon, and Steve Lee each pulled down 7 caroms, and D.D. shot a robust 16-19 from the charity stripe to end a four-game skid. For TBP, Joe DeGennaro and Eric Halpin tossed in 10 pts apiece, veteran Dave Berger netted 8, and rookie Rich Banasiak accounted for 6.

Winning team:  Triples ‘n Dimes  (66)
Losing team:   Run It Back!         (38)

TND led by only two at halftime, but outscored its opponent 39-13 after the intermission. Stephen “Curry” Murray drained 7 of 8 from downtown on his way to 25 pts, Doug “Big Dog” Barker woofed in 13, both Rich Cobbinah and the ageless Tim Gray contributed 10 markers, and Troy Sims sprinkled in 6 & 7. RIB!, losers of three consecutive, received 17 pts from sophomore standout Greg Josephsen, and 7 pts from Capt. Tom St. John.

Winning team: Throwbacks       (60)
Losing team:  Basket Brawlers  (45)

The Throwbacks kept rolling along, as the league’s all-time leading point-producer, Jamal Berry, fashioned a vintage 32-pt. performance. Berry was ably supported by Jason Shann (13), Jason Holley (7 pts, 7 rebs), and Vic Bauer (6). The Brawlers fought hard, propelled by James Patrick (11 & 7), Kevin Adams (10), AARP cardholder Pete Chemidlin (10), Chris Beaudry (6 & 9), and Chris Ward (6).
