Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA 30+ Men’s Basketball League Week #6

FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Week Six play saw two once-beaten squads separate themselves from the rest of the pack, as the teams of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Men’s 30+ Basketball League reached the mid-point of their regular season.

Game #1
Winning team: Get Buckets (59)
Losing team:  Slamma Jamma (37)

The league’s all-time leading scorer, Jamal Berry, turned in a vintage performance (31 pts, 11 boards, 5-8 from beyond the arc), as Get Buckets rebounded from its lone loss in Week 5.  KG, Kevin Gannon, double-doubled (14 & 12), and veteran Mike Ruccio contributed 9 pts & 7 caroms for the winners, now tied atop the standings.  Slam Jam, losers of two in a row, received 15 pts & 8 rebs from Gavin Ford, and 13 pts from Dave Berger.

Game #2
Winning team:  Size Matters (55)
Losing team:   Falcons (45)

Size Matters kept pace with Get Buckets in the standings, due in large part to rookie Chris Burke (14 pts) and Jason Pompeo’s 13 pts & 9 boards. Capt. James “Big Smooth” Patrick (9) and Scott Lowder (8 & 7), took matters into their own hands as well.  The Super Bowl-bound Falcons were kept in the contest by center Troy Sims (15 & 9), and Capt. Jason Shann (15 pts, 3-5 from the land of plenty).

Game #3
Winning team:  No Conscience (55)
Losing team:   Drive N Dish (49)

No Conscience snapped a three-game skid, thanks to a balanced attack.  Stephen Murray and Capt. Chris Mattina both drained three from downtown and finished with 11 pts apiece, Gregg Carder & Tim Gray each tallied 10, and Jason Holley did the work underneath (8 & 8).  Drive N Dish suffered its fourth straight defeat, all by six points or less.  Greg Shea (15 pts), Chris Beaudry (14 & 9), Steve Lee (9 & 9), and Brian Ciemneicki (8 pts, 6 assists) accounted for 46 of DND’s 49 total marks.

Game #4
Winning team: Hickory Hoosiers (64)
Losing team:  Flash-N-Bang (54)

Geoff Gonzalez drilled the opposition for 19 pts, and three of his frontcourt mates – Craig Cichocki (14 & 11), Joe DeGennaro (13 & 13), and Dave Ferreiro (12 & 11) – fashioned double-doubles, as the red hot Hicks won their third consecutive, after starting the season 0-3.  Omar Glover (20 pts, 8 boards) and Warren Lowe (18 pts) were solid in a losing cause.
