Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA Celebrates Splash

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is pleased to announce SPLASH week from April 1st - 4th at their facility located at 1340 Martine Avenue in Scotch Plains .

Y SPLASH is a free program that promotes water safety in our community through basic swim instruction and review of water safety skills. By placing an emphasis on water safety and implementing awareness programs, the YMCA continues to take proactive measures in its goal of preventing drowning and water-related accidents.

Last year participants learned to tread water, float and provide assistance to a swimmer in trouble in the water. In addition, over 200 students took a pledge to be safer around the water which included items such as:

  • Only swimming when/where there is a lifeguard on duty;
  • Refraining from breath-holding activities in the water;
  • Moving out of the pool to shelter when there is a thunder storm;
  • Walking on the pool deck; and
  • Following all posted pool rules.

Increase your water safety awareness and improve basic skills by participating in our Learn-to-Swim & Water Safety classes which will run Monday, April 1st through Thursday, April 4th from 3:15-4:00pm for 3-17 year olds; and April 1st and 2nd from 6-7:30pm for 18 years and up. Participants will become familiar with basic skills such as floating and treading as well as general safety in a pool area. The classes are open to our community and are free of charge, however space is limited and pre-registration is required.

Each year, thousands of people are injured in swimming-related accidents because they are unaware of the potential dangers related to the water and/or they have not received proper swim instruction. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA recognizes the need for further education and is committed to helping our community become safer around the water.

By placing an emphasis on water safety and implementing awareness programs, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA continues to take proactive measures in its goal to prevent drowning and water-related accidents.

Join us in celebrating SPLASH and increasing your water safety awareness. For more information, visit our website or call (908) 889-8880.
