Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Compete

FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- All three of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s gymnastics teams competed recently. “A” and “B” divisions competed at Madison Area YMCA on April 30, while the “C” division competed at Somerset County YMCA on April 22.

Level 8, “A” division was represented by Ava McKenzie, Kristy Cerini, and Rachel Tang. The girls competed in 2 age groups. McKenzie placed 1st on the Vault in the 14 and under age group. The 15 and over age group saw Cerini place 2nd on Vault, 4th on Floor and 5th on Beam while Tang placed 3rd on Floor.

The “B” Division competed in two different levels at the meet. Level 7 was represented by Jillian Miele, Ella Platts, and Nicalina DelRosario. Miele and Platts finished 3rd and 4th place respectively on the Balance Beam, in the 12 and under age group. The “B” Division Level 6 team competed in four different age groups. Olivia Alicante, in the 10 year old age group, took home 2nd place on Beam and 3rd place on Vault. Ava Fazio placed 4th on Vault while teammate Spencer Doran earned a 5th place finish on Bars.

Ashley Sekiya was the lone representative in the 11 year old age group. She placed 2nd All-Around and on Beam, and 4th on Bars. Earning 4th place All-Around for the 12 year old age group was Alana Beardsley, who placed 1st on Floor and 4th on Bars while Elizabeth Parvin was awarded 3rd on Beam and 4th on Floor. First place All-Around in the 13 and over age group was earned by Caitlin Maughan. Maughan also won 1st place finishes on Bars, Beam and Floor and 3rd place on Vault. Third place All-Around was taken home by Madalyn McEvoy, who also earned 2nd place on Vault and 3rd place on Beam. Isabella Cukrow took home a 2nd place finish on Floor.

The C Division team was represented by 12 gymnasts. They competed in four different age groups. Placing 3rd on Beam and 7th on Vault, in the 9 and under age group, was Xing Liao. Alice Ping was awarded 1st place All-Around in the 10 year-old age group. Ping also earned 1st place on Bars, Beam and Floor and 3rd place on Vault. Sophia Catalano earned 1st place on Vault, 2nd on Floor, 4th place All-Around and 6th place on Bars. Olivia Stelzer placed 3rd on Beam. Remy Batista also competed in this age group. All levels are looking forward to competing in their State Championships this coming weekend, May 20-21. Good Luck to all!

First place All-Around in the 11 year-old age group was earned by Tehya Stephens, who also took 1st on Beam, 2nd on Vault and Bars and 7th on Floor. Jasmine Johnson placed 1st on Vault and Floor, 3rd All-Around, and 4th on Beam. Second place All-Around went to Jessica Dianda, who also placed 2nd on Floor, 3rd on Bars, and 4th on Vault. First place on Bars was won by Sarah Sicoli, who also took 5th on Floor and All-Around, and 8th on Beam. Eva Pereira took home 5th place on Vault and 6th on Floor. Second place on Balance Beam was won by Taylor Clement who also placed 4th on Vault. Jessica Glander and Olivia Stahley competed in the 12 and over age group bringing home 3rd and 4th place All-Around, respectively. Glander placed 2nd on Beam and tied for 3rd on Floor with Stahley, who placed 1st on Bars and 3rd on Vault.

Gymnastics classes are offered at the YMCA include parent-toddler, preschool and school age classes. They are offered Monday through Saturday. This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics at the YMCA! Registration is open for summer gymnastics camp. The Y also offers dance and sports classes and Birthday parties.
