Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) Swim Team Finishes 6th Overall at the NJ YMCA 12 and Under State Championships

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) swim team finished 6th place overall at the NJ YMCA 12 and Under State Championship held at Ocean County YMCA from February 23rd to 25th. The team, competing against 27 other YMCAs from across the state, scored 893 points with the Girls placing 4th and the Boys placing 7th.

Congratulations to all 48 FSPY 12 and Under State Swimmers for the numerous best times and for a great season!

For the 11-12 Girls, Billie Rose Sherratt had 6 top 16 finishes: 100 free (10th), 200 free (5th), 500 free (4th), 50 back (12th),100 back (15th) and 200 back (11th); Bridget Davis 100 free (16th),  200 free (11th) 500 free (12th);  Katherine Li 50, 100 and 200 fly (8th/12th/9th) and Ellie Moose 100 and 200 breast (13th/15th).The relay team of Sherratt, Victoria Gee, Li, Davis finished 8th in the 200 Medley Relay while  Sherratt, Naomi Maurer, Li, Davis came in 6th  in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

The 11/12 Boys had 5 top 16 finishers. Cameron Linenberg finished in the top 16 for 7 events:  50 and 100 free (8th/12th),  50, 100 and 200 fly (3rd/3rd/13th), 100 IM (5th) and 200 IM (10th);  Adrian Romej  50, 100 and 200 free (5th/6th/10th), 3rd 50 back,  11th in 50 fly; Bradley Frank 50, 100, 200 and 500 free (14th/11th/12th/12th);  Ryan Jawor 100 and 200 back (16th/13th) and Owen Waibel 50 and 100 breast (11th/14th).    The relay team of B. Frank, Linenberg, Romej, Waibel earned a 3rd place in the 200 Medley Relay and a 2nd place in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

For the 10&U Girls, Laura Kim, who led the team with 105 points, placed top 8 in all 6 events. Kim earned two 1st place finishes in 100 Free and 100 IM (both new team records), two 2nd places (50 fly/100 fly), one 3rd (200 free) and one 4th (200 IM).  Other 10U girls scorers were: Elle Cadigan 50 free (4th), 100 & 200 free (both 9th) 100 IM (16th), 50 breast (5th) 100 breast (8th); Gina Yip 50, 100 & 200 free (12th/12th/10th), 50 and 100 breast (3rd/2nd) and IM (9th); Phoebe Kaplan 11th (50 free), three 14th places (50 back/50 breast/100 breast), 15th in the 100 free and 16th in the 100 back); Kayla Kerr 13th in the 100 fly; and Shae Trenery was 14th in the 200 Free and 16th in the 100 Breast. The relay team of Cadigan, Kaplan, Kim, Yip broke two FSPY records in the relays as they finished 3rd in the 200 Medley Relay and 2nd in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

For the 10&U boys, Brandon Calderone scored in the 50, 100 and 200 free (7th/11th/8th), the 50 and 100 fly (9th/11th) and the 50 back (10th). Corey Calderone contributed in the 50 free (16th), 50 breast and 100 breast (12th/13th).  Other scorers were Chris Espiritu 100IM/200IM (6th/5th),  50 and 100 fly (10th/8th), 8th in 50 breast and 6th in 100 free while Aaron Frank had successful swims in the 100 IM & 200 IM (14th/16th), the 50 free & 100 free (11th/13th), 50 breast (10th) and 50 back (16th). The 10&U boys also excelled in their relays with the team of B. Calderone, C. Calderone, Espiritu, A. Frank taking 5th in the 200 Medley Relay and 4th in the 200 Freestyle Relay.

The FSPY 13 & Over State Team will compete at Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, PA March 8th-11th.
