Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s C Division Gymnasts Win Meet


FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s C Division gymnastics team competed this past weekend at home. They earned a season high team score of 107.45 points to win the meet against Somerset County YMCA (104.75) and South Mountain YMCA (96.925).

Seventeen girls from the Fanwood team competed in 4 age groups. First place All-Around in the 9 and under age group was won by Ava Bozetarnik, who also placed 1st on vault, 2nd on Bars, 3rd on Beam and 4th on Floor. Julia Ferguson placed 1st on Floor and Bars, 4th All-Around and 5th on Vault. Xing Liao and Eva Seganish also represented the team in this age group.

Alice Ping took home 1st place All-Around in the 10 year old age group. Ping also placed 1st on Bars, Beam and Floor and 4th on Vault. Third place All-Around was won by Sophia Catalano, who also placed 2nd on Vault, 3rd on Floor, 4th on Beam and 5th on Bars. Olivia Stelzer placed 6th on the Bars. Remy Batista also competed in the age group.

First place All-Around and on Beam was won by Jasmine Johnson in the 11 year old age group. Johnson also captured 2nd on Vault and Floor and 4th on Bars. 1st place on Bars was earned by Sarah Sicoli, who earned 4th All-Around. Tehya Stephens earned 2nd All-Around and Bars, 3rd on Beam and Floor and 6th on Vault. First place on Vault went to Sara Lehman who also captured 2nd on Floor and 4th on Beam. Jessica Dianda took 1st place on Floor and 3rd place in the All-Around, Vault and Bars and 6th on Beam.  Taylor Clement also represented this age group.

Olivia Stahley was 1st in the All-Around in the 12 and over age group. She also earned 1st on Bars, 2nd and Beam and 3rd on Floor.  Jessica Glander placed 1st on Beam, tying with Stahley for 1st on Bars. Glander also placed 5th on Floor.

Gymnastics classes offered at the YMCA include parent-toddler, preschool and school age classes. They are offered Monday through Saturday. The Spring I session begins on March 6th. This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics at the YMCA. The Y also offers dance and sports classes and birthday parties.
