RIO -- Fanwood resident Ana Bogdanovski, a dual citizen swimming for Macedonia, finished third in her qualifying heat for 200 Freestyle, but did not advance to the semifinals on Monday at the Olympics in Rio.

Bogdanovski, who graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2015, set a Macedonian record in the 200 Free (2:00.52). On Friday night, she became the first female athlete to carry Macedonia's flag at an Olympic opening ceremony.

The Olympic swimmer attended the Magnet School at Union County Vo-Tech and swam locally for Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School and FSPY.  Upon her return to the U.S. this week, she will begin taking classes at  New Jersey Medical School (formerly UMDNJ) in Newark.
