FANWOOD, NJ -- Welcome Rain Publishers of New York City has published A Lightness, A Thirst, or Nothing At All, a hard-bound collection of 52 prose poems by Fanwood's Adele Kenny.
A Fanwood resident since 1974, Kenny is the award-winning author of 23 books (poetry and nonfiction) and poetry editor of Tiferet Journal. This is Kenny’s second book with Welcome Rain. The publisher describes the new book as “intensely focused, compressed, and sharp-edged. These poems startle, surprise, and tell us things about ourselves that we didn’t know.”
Kenny’s poems have been published in journals worldwide and have appeared in books and anthologies from Crown, Tuttle, Shambhala, and McGraw-Hill. She is the recipient of two New Jersey State Arts Council poetry fellowships, a first place Merit Book Award, first place Henderson Award, a Merton Poetry of the Sacred Award, a Writer's Digest Poetry Award, and the 2012 International Book Award for Poetry. She also is the recipient of Kean University’s Distinguished Alumni Award and a Women of Excellence Award from the Union County Commission on the Status of Women for her work in the arts and humanities.
Kenny is founding director of the Carriage House Poetry Series in Fanwood. She also serves as co-director of the Fanwood Arts Council and is a Shade Tree commissioner and an Environmental commissioner for the Borough of Fanwood.
