FANWOOD, NJ - The Friends of the Fanwood Memorial Library are holding their 27th Annual Book Sale this weekend. Volunteers will be at the red brick building in Forest Road Park, three blocks from the Fanwood Library, to sell books for only $7 a bag on Sunday from 12 to 4.

The book sale benefits the Friends of the Fanwood Memorial Library. The Friends are a volunteer 501(c)3 group established in 1986 to help the library provide services, purchase special items, present programs and promote the joy of reading and using other media. There are nearly 175 single and family members.

Thena Rosahl, who is a member of the Board of the Friends of the Fanwood Memorial Library, said that the Book Sale “is a cooperative effort. The Department of Public Works helps by bringing tables, as does the Rescue Squad. The Friends of the Scotch Plains Public Library contribute book ends.”

The Fanwood Seniors, Fanwood Recreation and Borough Hall all work together to make the event happen. Thena mentioned that volunteers sign up for time slots to help with the sorting and selling of books, and they “decide that it’s fun and either stay or come back.”  Thena has been involved in running the Book Sale for two years.

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
