"Running out under the lights at home will be a cool feeling for these guys, it's a special thing for any high school player and is something they will cherish for the rest of their lives," said Holman. "Going out and doing the job is what is most important, we cannot trade emotion for performance, after kickoff it will be business as usual."

Holman says that this week's opponent is a good team with size and talent, since made it to the state final last year to Boonton. Despite the challenge, Holman believes his team can rise to the occasion, despite having gone through a two-week quarantine period in which they lost critical practice time and game experience.

"We can't really make up for that lost time," the coach said. "We try to stay positive and get back into a routine."

Holman says that his team needs a bit of overall improvement in order to get a win on Friday.

"In every program I've been a part of, it has always been stressed that the biggest jump in performance comes between week one and week two," he said. "The early jitters are gone, and the team can settle in."

The Raiders will kick off against Cedar Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Tyson Field at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. is Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s only free daily local news source.
