SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – If you think pennies are obsolete, think again!

Downtown Scotch Plains’ neighbor, Froyo World, has declared war – a Penny War to be precise.

Starting on Feb. 1, the frozen yogurt shop on Park Ave. will display jars for each local school, asking students and parents to fill their favorite to the top with pennies. At the end of the month, the school which has the most pennies will be declared the winner and receive the money inside, along with a donation matched by Froyo World.

Students of the school will also receive a 10 percent discount for one week after the announcement (with appropriate student ID).

The remaining money collected from the other jars will be donated to a local charity. The fundraiser will take place each month, and a new charity will be chosen as the beneficiary.

Additionally, for each 25 cent flier (distributed by schools) accompanied by a Froyo World purchase will be returned as a donation to the school’s PTA.

The Missing Moses

A seemingly dubious distinction belongs to this week’s Parshah, Tetzaveh (Exodus 27:20–30:10). It is the only reading in the Torah — from the first Parshah of the book of Exodus (in which he is born) until the end of the book of Numbers — where the name of Moses is not mentioned. Tetzaveh’s opening words are V’atah ...
