Frozen Ropes Stars 16U Drop 12-6 Contest to The Hudson County Pirates

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Frozen Ropes Stars 16U racked up nine hits, but it wasn't enough, as Frozen Ropes lost, 12-6, on Friday to the Hudson County Pirates in USABL 16U play.

Nick Melchionna racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Stars 16U. He doubled in the first inning.

Tyler Hoffmann pitched will but tired a bit midway, and ended up taking the loss. He struck out four in 3 1/3 innings. Frozen Ropes scored two runs of its own in the first. The Stars scored on a two-run double by Melchionna. After posting one run in the second, Frozen Ropes again scored one in the sixth. In the second, the Stars scored on a sacrifice fly by Ben Strauss, bringing home Erik Kaufman.

The Hudson County Pirates tied the game in the third. Frozen Ropes survived the Hudson County Pirates' surge and put up two runs of its own in the third. The Stars scored on an RBI single by Jordan Stennett and a passed ball.

The Hudson County Pirates never trailed after scoring six runs in the fourth on three singles. Kaufman came in to pitch in relief with two runners in scoring position and was able to get out of the jam, holding down the Pirates. Corey Smith’s Frozen Ropes Stars were unable to put up additional offensive scoring in their last at bat.

Frozen Ropes currently sits in third place in their USABL 16U division as they head to the playoffs.
