FSPY A & B Gymnasts Compete in 3rd Meet of the season

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- On Sunday, February 15, the FSP YMCA A & B Division Gymnastics Teams competed in the their 3rd meet of the season, which was their second meet in 8 days. The meet was hosted by the Madison Area YMCA. Both teams came in 2nd place behind the host team.

Competing in the A Division, 14 and under age group, Ava McKenzie took home the 2nd place All Around ribbon. McKenzie also captured 1st place on Uneven Bars and 3rd place on Vault.  In the 15 and over age group, Abigail Fontana earned 3rd place All Around. Fontana also received 2nd place on Balance Beam, 3rd place on Vault, 4th place on Floor Exercise and 5th place on Uneven Bars. 4th place All Around was awarded to Lauren Lockfeld who also received 2nd place on Vault, 3rd place on Uneven Bars, and 5th place on both Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. Abby Kennedy captured 6th place on Uneven Bars. Kristy Cerini’s solid performance contributed to the team’s score.

B Division gymnasts, Naomi Southerland and Zoe Wernsing represented the FSPY team in the 12 and under age group.  In the 13 and over age group, Paige Hoblitzell earned 4th place All Around and 3rd place on Balance Beam. Elizabeth Kern placed 4th on Vault, Uneven Bars and Floor Exercise.  Sara Banasiak and Nicalina DelRosario also competed in the 13 and over age group.

Registration for the Spring I session of gymnastics classes opened on Saturday, Feb. 21. Spring I classes run from March 2 - April 26, 2015.  Gymnastics classes are held at the Martine Ave. facility and are offered Monday through Saturday for School-aged and preschool gymnasts. Cheerleading is also offered at the Martine Ave. facility on Saturday mornings during the Spring I session.  For more information about gymnastics at the Y, please contact Barbara Breuninger at (908) 889-8880.
