FSPY Girls "Black" Swim Team Edges LHY in Close Meet

LAKELAND HILLS, NJ -- FSPY Girls Black Team had a meet at Lakeland Hills YMCA on Saturday, Dec. 5. The final score was close, but FSPY edged out LHY, 185-181. 

The meet began with the 10 & under 100 Individual Medley (IM) where Katherine Li earned 4 points with a 2nd place finish and Jessica Markwant finished 4th. The 11-12 year old races were close with FSPY’s Morgan Tsin and Elle Priesing finishing 4th and 5th. In the 13-14 100 IM, Martha Lewand, Rachel DiFabrizio, and Angelina Hansel took 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively. FSPY’s Rachel Maizes finished 1st in the 15-18 year-old 100 IM followed by Sarah Davis in 3rd

The 8 and under girls had some exciting races. Laura Kim took first in both the 50 Free and 25 fly. Keira St. John earned a 1st place in 25 Breaststroke, while Sophia Yalcin took 3rd. In the 25 Backstroke, top finishers were Caroline Lowder,  2nd, and Jennifer Mark want in 3rd.

For the 9/10s, Billie Sherratt had first-place finishes in the 100 Free and 50 Butterfly.  Naomi Maurer took 1st in the 50 Backstroke, while Li finished 1st in the 50 Breaststroke, followed by Victoria Gee and Ellie Moose in 2nd and 4th place. Meghan Lai finished 3rd in the 50 Backstroke while Jessica Markwant took 4th.  The 100 Medley Relay of Maurer, Gee, Sherratt, and Li took first, earning 8 points. 

Abigail DiGiorgio, 11/12, earned a 1st place in her 100 Freestyle race and 2nd in the 50 Backstroke. Xenia Kobori took 3rd place in the 11/12 50 yard Breaststroke while Tsin took 3rd in the 50 Fly. Other significant points earned for the 11/12 age group were by Olivia Alpizar (4th, 100 Free), and Abigail Ryan and Alexa Fazio (3rd and 4th, 50 Back).

The FSPY 13/14s Lucy Zhang, Marcelina Krowinska and Amanda Pyle swept the 50 Free, and DiFabrizio finished 1st  in the 50 Breaststroke. LHY answered by grabbing the top three spots in the 13/14 50 Backstroke and the 50 Butterfly. But the FSPY girls fought back and the Medley relay team of Lewand, Zhang, Hansel, and DiFabrizio outtouched LHY to take first place.

Lastly, the 15/18 age group showed some exciting races. Amanda Banasiak took 1st for FSPY in the 50 Free, with Macie Schaper in 3rd and Shannon Pyle in 4th. Rachel Maizes took 2nd in the 50 Breaststroke while Erika Frazier earned a 2nd place in the 50 Backstroke. Monika Burzynski finished 1st  in the 50 Fly followed by Erika Frazier in 4th. The 200 Yard Medley Relay was very exciting with 8 points earned by the 1st place team (Burzynski, Maizes, Davis, Moesch) and 2 points for the 3rd place team (Frazier, Pyle, Schaper, Banasiak). 

The Medley Relay wins by the 9/10, 13/14 and 15/18 groups were a huge contributor to FSPYs overall win over LHY.
