FSPY Gymnastics Team Continue Their Season

FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s A & B Division gymnastics teams competed last weekend at Madison Area YMCA. The first session of the day included two of the team’s Level 8 gymnasts competing in the 16 and over age group. Abby Kennedy won 1st place on Vault, while teammate Kristy Cerini earned 4th place on the same event.

The second session of the day featured 18 girls from the FSPY team competing in Levels 6 & 7, in seven different age groups.

Olivia Alicante competed in Level 6 earning her a 4th place finish in the All-Around for the 10 & under age group. She also placed 2nd on Vault, 4th on Bars and 5th on Beam and Floor. Ava Fazio earned a 1st place finish on Vault and 4th place on Beam and Floor.  Spencer Doran received 6th place on Floor for her efforts in the competition.

Eleven year old Ashley Sekiya won her age group with a 1st place finish in the All-Around, Vault, and Floor, 2nd place on Beam, and 3rd place on Bars.

Third place All-Around was a tie between Elizabeth Parvin and Ava Jacobsen, in the 12-year-old age group. Parvin also placed 2nd on Beam, 3rd on Floor, and 6th on Bars. Jacobsen earned 2nd place on Vault and Floor. Emma Nobile placed 4th in the All-Around as well as 4th on Vault and Bars and 6th on Beam. Also competing for this age group was Alana Beardsley who earned 4th place on Floor and 5th place on Bars.

First place All-Around in the 13 and over age group was won by Madalyn McEvoy. She also earned 2nd places on Bars, Beam and Floor and 3rd place on Vault. The 2nd place All-Around was given to Lauren Fitzgerald, who earned 1st place on Vault and Beam, 3rd place on Bars and 4th place on Floor. First place on Floor was won by Caitlin Maughan, who also placed 2nd on Vault. Isabella Cukrow earned a 3rd place finish on Beam.

Gymnastics classes offered at the YMCA include parent-toddler, preschool and school age classes. They are offered Monday through Saturday. The Spring I session has just begun and there are still spots left.  This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics.
