HOLMDEL, NJ -- Jerika Lufrano ran one of the fastest times for a Union County girl in course history to place eighth and lead the UC cross-country team to an 11th place finish at the 46th NJSIAA Meet of Champions on Saturday at Holmdel Park.

Led by Lufrano, the Vikings scored 246 points to place 11th in a race featuring 21 teams. Lufrano, a junior, who lives in Montclair, ran 18:36, which places her third all-time in Holmdel Park history for a Union County girl. Her previous best time at Holmdel was 18:51, which she ran to place second at the state Non-Public A  Championships on Nov.11. The only two girls from Union County to run faster at Holmdel than Lufrano are Katie McCafferty of Oak Knoll (18:13 in 2007) and Theresa Gschwind of Summit (18:19 in 1981).

UC's other scorers in its all underclassmen lineup were sophomore Leena Morant, 57th in a Holmdel personal best 20:07, junior Megan McCabe, 74th in a Holmdel personal best 20:19, sophomore Zamira Ysaac, 107th in 20:53, and sophomore Ashleigh Patterson, 126th in 21:22.
