Girls Soccer: Scotch Plains-Fanwood 2nd Grade World Cup Winners

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Team USA capped an undefeated season with a 2-0 victory over Team Italy in the SPFSA Second Grade Girls’ World Cup championship game on Saturday, June 18 at Kramer Manor Park. Both teams advanced to the finals with 2-0 records in pool play.

Team USA, coached by Rudy Brandl, took a 2-0 lead at the half on an own goal and a hard shot by Emily Roof. Goalkeepers Elissa Steingart and Colleen Gillen combined for their third shutout of the tournament.

Other goal scorers for USA in the tournament were Sammie Nocera, Nicole Perez, Braelyn Brandl, Colleen Kennedy, Sofia Vanterpool, Madison Reynolds and Claire Widder. Riley Boozer and Grace MacDougall also contributed solid play for the champions.

Team Italy, coached by Marco Massa, was led  by Mackenzie Sheehy, Madelynn Sheehy and Kaitlyn Massa.
