PERTH AMBOY, NJ -- The graduating seniors on the Scotch Plains-Fanwood girls swim team who won a State championship during their freshman year are trying to come full circle as they will return to the finals this year. The Raiders advanced after dominating Northern Highlands,105-65, in the NJSIAA Public B semifinals at Raritan Bay YMCA and will take on Moorestown in the finals at The College of New Jersey on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood started fast by taking the 200 Medley Relay and then the next four races. Freshman Abby Ryan won the 200 Freestyle, senior Erika Frazier won the 200 IM, DeeDee Maizes won the 50 Freestyle, and Olivia Barcia took the 100 Butterfly.

Following wins by Grace Abousleman in the 100 Freestyle and Samantha Chin in the 500 Freestyle, the Raiders came back with a win in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Freshman Lily Holston won the 100 Backstroke before Northern Highlands won the 400 Freestyle Relay, the last race of the meet.

"Northern Highlands had a few swimmers missing due to illness, so the margin of victory was a little larger than originally expected.  It did allow many of our swimmers to swim some different events," said Raiders head coach Jess Hulnik.

The Raiders' opponents, Moorestown, advanced by defeating West Windsor-Plainsboro North on Tuesday also at Raritan Bay. It will be Moorestown's first trip to the finals since 1995.

"Moorestown is a great team, and we will need a 'Chatham meet performance' to compete," Coach Hulnik said.
