Girls Volleyball: Union Catholic Wins 8th Straight, Earns 2nd Seed for County Tourney

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Union Catholic volleyball team won its eighth straight match with a victory over Elizabeth on Tuesday and earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Union County Tournament.

The Vikings, ranked No. 14 in the state, defeated Elizabeth, 25-4, 25-12 at Union Catholic on Tuesday to raise its record to 16-2.

For the Vikings, Olivia Szyszkiewicz had nine service points, five kills, four aces and two assists. Alexandra Kwasnik had six service points and two kills. Liz Dore had five service points, three aces and two kills. Samara Perez had six service points and three aces, and Jackie Bollwage and Emily Jones each had four assists.

Also on Tuesday, the Union County Tournament seedings were announced. 

The Union Catholic Varsity, seeking its third straight county title, is seeded No. 2 behind Westfield. Westfield defeated UC last month in a three-set thriller. The Vikings will host the winner of No. 15 seed Johnson in the opening round of the UCT.

In the J.V. Union County Tournament, UC, seeded third, is also schedueld to play No. 14 seed Johnson this Tuesday as part of a J.V./Varsity doubleheader at Union Catholic. is Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s only free daily paper.
