SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Sometime over the weekend, vandals sprayed paint on the brick exterior of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.

Now barely legible – thanks to the diligent work of the custodians who spent hours removing the paint this afternoon – were words of hate and scattered symbols of anarchy.

The Scotch Plains Police Department is currently investigating the crime.

“(This type of vandalism) is not uncommon; it seems to pick up in the summer time,” suggested Scotch Plains Captain Ted Conley in a phone interview with TAP into Scotch Plains-Fanwood. “We’re still working on all the reports right now. It’s an ongoing investigation.”

Vandalism of school property is a punishable offense.

“Any time an incident like this happens, we like to up our patrols,” added Conley.
